Pete Gavin is a Manchester born professional bass player, composer and educator based in London, In 2008 he graduated from Leeds College of Music with a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies, majoring in performance and composition. Here he was privileged to study under Zoltan Dekany and Garry Jackson among others. Since completing his studies Pete has maintained an active role in the UK music scene and abroad.
Pete has always believed that music should be used for improving people’s lives and has pursued this with his work for Live Music Now. As a creative practitioner Pete has been involved in the organising and running a number of community and educational music projects throughout Yorkshire. Working as a peripatetic music teacher for Artforms, he provided widespread learning experiences for beginners to advanced level in guitar, bass guitar, latin music, rock/pop ensembles, improvisation and composition. He now teaches privately from in his flat in London SE20.
Pete has completed a number of cruise contracts for P&O, working aboard the Ventura and Oceana. As a guest entertainer he was responsible for running their successful ‘Rockschool’ program. This involved tutoring groups of children in a rock band scenario, leading up to a final performance. In December of 2010 and 2011, he was hired for Icon Theatrical’s production of ‘The Tenors’ and has since gone on to tour with ‘The Sopranos’, ‘9 to 5’, ‘The Kathy Kirby Show’ and 'Somebody to Love'.
