They Will Flock are an electro-acoustic quartet formed by Electric Bassist Peter Gavin and features Tom Lumley on Saxphone, Aubin Vanns on Electric Guitar and Matt Davies on Drums. This quartet play original compositions that hurtle them into the crossroads between jazz & electronica with strong elements of world music. Their live shows are known for intense sonic landscapes, explosive rock energy and high-level nuanced chamber ensemble playing. With influences including Steve Coleman, Jim Black and Ben Monder and diverse playing experiences including contemporary jazz, Jewish dance music, Indian weddings, Swedish folk music and West African drum circles, every member of the group has a wealth of influences to draw on. Using Dutch composer Peter Schatt's Tone Clock system, they offer highly wrought compositions that are balanced with adventurous no-holds-barred improvising. Their open-mindedness and willingness to experiment has led to a unique sound. Their music offers a directness and accessibility that belies it’s complex nature. Having all studied at Leeds College of Music and 3/4 of them hailing from the North West, there is a cultural as well as musical common ground that informs and enhances the groups empathy and communication. This is a band which exists because of its members: each one is integral and irreplaceable. They Will Flock's debut album entitled 'The Game' was released in Autumn 2019. |
